Yesterday (Dec. 22nd), Shared Blessings and many of its volunteers spent the day distributing food to those in need for Christmas. This is our first year to do a food giveaway and it was a great day for everyone involved. Nearly 100 families (over 300 people) received food yesterday. I thought about the involvement it took to make it happen. Food was donated by several community food drives ... AAP, Krebs school, Natl Oilwell, Kar-Mart, City of McAlester and The Real Estate Place. Several hunters donated deer and Kay's Meat Processers worked with us on preparing the meat. Volunteers gathered to pack boxes and hand them out as people came to Shared Blessings.
Watching all this in operation is such a joy. Shared Blessings is truly becoming a gathering place for people to volunteer and serve those who are struggling and less fortunate.
Thank you for whatever part you play in the life of this ministry. Many donate their finances to fund our day to day operations and make it possible for this ministry to expand. Thank You for your generosity.
If you have yet to get involved, please know that our plans and dreams for meeting needs in this community still outnumber our present financial support. Consider supporting Shared Blessings on a monthly or annual basis and help us continue to expand our many ministries. May God Bless you this Christmas!

Give This Christmas Away
My favorite song right now is "Give this Christmas Away" by Matthew West & Amy Grant. You may have heard it on K-Love or as a promo for Operation: Christmas Child or possibly on the latest Veggie Tales video. It helps me think about this season the way that I should. Christmas is not about me or even about my family, but about others! Am I giving this Christmas away? Am I teaching my children that Christmas is about others?
If you are like me, you get caught up in all the routines of this season. Everything happens the way it has always happened and before you know it, the opportunity for something very special to happen is lost. Something very special can happen this Christmas for you and your family, but it not if you buy into the selfish mindset that now marks the season.
Why not do something different? Why not start some new traditions by making plans to give this Christmas away by reaching out to others? Spend some time brainstorming with your family about how to reach out and help others. You will be surprised by what might happen.
If we focus on others this Christmas, we will experience what the season can truly be ... a time of joy, peace, love & contentment. The world's recipe for Christmas will never produce those things.
