School Clothes & Happy Faces!
What would be like to start school without anything to wear? What would it feel like to have one pair of jeans that you had to wear everyday? How would it affect the way you think about yourself if your only shirt had stains all over it? What about underwear? For most of us, those have never been concerns but to many, they are real. Shared Blessings' recently took its Mobile Clothing Unit to Clayton, OK for a clothing giveaway day. Over 150 people received clothing that day but I was particularly moved by some of the children who came through. One young girl came through who had been home schooled all of her life but was about to attend public school for the first time. Her only dilemma was that she didn't have enough to wear. Realizing that she couldn't afford clothing, she had decided she would just stay home again. After coming through our clothing trailer, she had found more than enough to get started in school. It was a joy to watch. There were many other children in need who found school clothing that day. Most kids get excited about what they are going to wear the first few days of school. I am grateful that there were several kids in the Clayton area who, after visiting our Mobile Clothing Unit, were excited about what they got to wear as well!
Approximately 300 children received clothing from Shared Blessings here in McAlester every month. As school started in this area, over 1000 students received a backpack, school supplies and a Bible. It gives us great joy to be able to meet the needs of so many getting ready for the new school year.
Thank you for your donations of clothing, food & finances. It makes this ministry possible!
